African Diaspora culture

Even though there was slavery in Puerto Rico and revolts and many deaths of the original Tainos, there were some good things that were adopted from other countries as part of the Puerto Rican culture. Many parts of the Puerto Rican culture were adopted from the African or Spanish culture. Religion is one of the many things that Puerto Rican adopted from both African and Spanish culture. For example, espiritismo, Santeria, and brujeria are all religions adopted by African culture. Probably the only religion adopted from the Spanish is Catholicism (ReinaldoR.). If you go to Puerto Rico even today you can see all these religions being practiced, you can even see some of these being practiced by Puerto Ricans in America today or even mixing religions like Catholicism and espiritismo. Something else that was adopted by Puerto Ricans from the African culture and Spanish is the instruments. Many instruments that were adopted from Africa by Puerto Ricans are percussion instruments. These instruments include the tambours, maracas, and drums whose designs were brought over by African slaves. There were also many instruments adopted from the Spanish. These instruments are string instruments like the Spanish guitar, bordonua, requinto, cuatro, and triple. All these instruments are used in Puerto Rican culture anywhere that there are Puerto Ricans. These instruments are used by Puerto Ricans all over, even for religious purposes. This shows how African culture and Spanish culture were adopted by Puerto Ricans for centuries.
